Top 10 Reasons for Pet Relinquishment

Dogs end up in rescue care for all kinds of reasons. There are circumstances that are beyond a person's control. The greatest gift that person can give to his or her pet is to ensure that the pet is placed in a home that matches that animal's requirements. There are, also, circumstances that are not beyond a person's control. Below is a list of some of the reasons people surrender their pets:
  1. He got too big. (We are still trying to figure out what part of Giant the person did not understand).
  2. She won't learn to stay off our new sofa.
  3. He's too dirty in the house.
  4. He doesn't fit in the house.
  5. He's too barky.
  6. She doesn't match our new decor.
  7. The kids are no longer interested in the dog.
  8. We bought an R.V. and want to spend our time traveling.
  9. Not enough time. (Everyone has the same amount of time in that a week consists of 168 hours. How we spend that time is a choice).
  10. He sheds/drools too much. (We are still trying to understand what part of sharing one's life with a Giant was not made clear...they are known for drooling and shedding).

The commitment to share one's life with a pet should be made with the understanding that this could well be a 12-15 year commitment. If you are not able to make that length of a commitment, please reconsider adding a pet to your family.
