It seemed only fitting when we got a call from one of our friends, that two
of our rescued gals model for artist Shari Hatt's photo exposition featuring
dogs. It was an opportunity for us to spread the word that Saint Bernards are
not for everyone. We invited two of our "problem" Saints to model for Shari:
Trinity of Hope's Princess Grace...Kelli (left), CCGC, and Trinity of Hope's
Princess Margaret (Maggie II) (right), CCGC, TT.
Kelli's rescue story began in
September 1999. We received a call that there was a Saint Bernard in a Quebec
kill shelter. After seven days of negotiations, the shelter agreed to release
the 4.5 year old female to us. We were able to trace Kelli's breeder and
original owner through the Canadian Kennel Club's database of tattoos. The
breeder was not interested in helping with Kelli once he learned that she was
already spayed. When asked why she was given up, the owner told us that she
was *disobedient* and that they "could not teach her to stay off the new
couch." It seemed only fitting that Kelli's debut as a model capture her where
she spends most of her day...on a couch.
Princess Magaret was surrendered to us for being unable to live with other
dogs. She now lives with another Saint Bernard and has been a foster sister on
occasion to others needing a safe house while awaiting their real homes. She not
only lives with another dog, she has lots of doggie friends and acts as hostess
for doggie parties at her home.
Both girls have participated in a number of
obedience classes at Shake-a-Paw Dog
Training and are currently enrolled in an agility class. Even though they
are both Princesses, they still like to have fun, when not holding court on
their respective thrones.
